Now, you could shutdown or reboot your PC from your desktop quickly! Here�s how:

Create a shortcut on your desktop:

• Right-click on the desktop
• Choose New
• Then choose Shortcut. The Create Shortcut Wizard appears.
• In the box asking for the location of the shortcut, type shutdown.
• After you create the shortcut, double-clicking on it will shut down your PC.

Doing more with the shutdown shortcut:

You can do much more with a �shutdown shortcut� than merely shut down your PC. You can add any combination of several switches to do extra duty, like this:

shutdown -r -t 01 -c �Rebooting your PC�

Double-clicking on that shortcut will reboot your PC after a one-second delay and display the message �Rebooting your PC.�

The shutdown command includes a variety of switches you can use to customize it. I use this technique to create two shutdown shortcuts on my desktop � one, for turning off my PC, and other for rebooting.

Here are the ones I use:

shutdown -s -t 03 -c �Bye Bye m8!�
shutdown -r -t 03 -c �Ill be back m8 ;)!�

Switch - What it does:

-s
Shuts down the PC.

-l
Logs off the current user.

-t nn
Indicates the duration of delay, in seconds, before performing the action.

-c �messagetext�
Displays a message in the System Shutdown window. A maximum of 127 characters can be used. The message must be enclosed in quotation marks.

-f
Forces any running applications to shut down.

-r
Reboots the PC.

I have published a post about opening and closing cd/dvd drive tray with (mouse left click) one click button several months ago. I named that post as open close CD tray by mouse click on ubuntu . One of my readers ask me that s/he can not understand the method. S/he requested me to explain the process detail.

So I am writing the post. I have two optical drive attached on my machine. I will create two buttons to open or close my first CD Drive. I will create buttons on top or side menu on Ubuntu Linux Desktop system.


Open Close One Click Button for CD Drive:

• a. Right click on panel body. A drop-down or pop-up menu will open.
• b. Select Add to Panel from the list. A Add to Panel dialogue window will open.

• c. Click on "Custom Application Launcher to create a new launcher.
• d. Now type description and command one by one as shown on the picture below.
• I wrote Open CD Rom on Name field.
• At Command text box I wrote "eject /dev/sr0" to Eject my first optical drive that is CD Drive.
• At Comment text field I wrote Open CD Tray. Remember you can write anything on Name and Comment box. But must write perfect command on Command field.

• e. Now click on "Close" button. You will find a new launcher on panel. Click on this button. You primary drive tray will open instantly.

Now you want to close the CD Rom Tray? Here is the method. Full process is same.

• Right click on Panel.
• Select Add to Panel.
• Select "Custom Application Launcher to create a new launcher.
• Write anything on Name and Comment Field.
• But type a little different on Command field. Closing command is quite different from Opening Command.
• Write "eject -t /dev/sr0" Dont make mistake to give space on both side (front and end) of -t syntax there.

I wrote sr0 to specify my first drive. I will write sr1 for my second drive. If you have more optical drive connected on casing then mention them as sr2, sr3, sr4.... . Here is the screen-shot of those another launchers for other drive.

Look at the image above. All processes are same I just changed drive name.

You can change icon on clicking onto the icon (left top side) when you create a launcher. Look at the image below. Two new launcher for opening and closing cd/dvd drive tray has been created on top panel of Ubuntu Linux.

Now you can open and close your systems cd or dvd or blue ray drive tray with a single mouse click. No need to press front-end button manually to get access of drive tray. Put compact disc on drive tray with left hand and press close button to close tray with right hand using mouse. Still you failed to understanding something? Copy OneNote Notebooks from One Account to Another

By using a shared folder on OneDrive, you can Copy an entire OneNote notebook from one user to another.

Heres how:

1. Lets call the user hosting the notebook OriginalUser, and the account we are going to copy to TargetUser
2. In OneDrive web app on the OriginalUser account, share a folder to TargetUser
3. Confirm you have access to the shared folder by logging in to the OneDrive web app for TargetUser. Select the folder and "Add to my OneDrive"
4. Now, back in the OneDrive web app for OriginalUser, select a Notebook and Copy it to the folder you shared with TargetUser. Wait for it to complete copying...
5. In the OneDrive web app for TargetUser, navigate to the shared folder and click to open the copied Notebook in the OneNote web app
6. Wait for the opening process to complete (this may take a while)
7. Rename the Notebook on the TargetUser OneDrive web app
8. Move to desired, non-shared folder in the TargetUser OneDrive. You will receive this message, and you have to press "Move Anyway"

Copy as table used to be one of my favourite IBM Notes features. We have a lot of databases full of documents, news stories etc. We also have an office which is "entirely migrated to connections.cloud" but not entirely using Verse. 

Some people just wont let go of the Notes interface - were working on that problem. 

One of our databases contains news stories, the links for which we regularly send out to the rest of the organisation.

We quickly discovered that the Verse users couldnt open the links. This is because the doclinks had our Notes Server names (eg: http://internalserver.ournetwork.local) as http, instead of Notes protocol; (Notes://internalserver).

This morning I discovered a great update to Verse.  I dont know when exactly IBM did it, but Im very grateful.

To Copy Documents as a Table

1. Go to a Notes database (in the Notes Client) and select a bunch of documents 
2. Use Right Mouse click, Copy as Table, 
3. Theyre now on the clipboard. 

If you paste these into a new email via the Notes client, then ONLY notes users will be able to use them. 

If you paste these into a new email via the VERSE client, then clients with either Notes or Verse will be able to use them. 

Always use the Verse client... even if your people arent on verse yet.  One day they will be ... and wouldnt it be nice if the old emails still worked. 

Copy as Table - in Action

For added fun, in case you dont want a table in your email, you can try merging the cells in verse and then re-copying the data out of the table into another part of verse (and deleting the original table).

One Final Caution

Since the links are Notes:// links, they wont work on mobile versions of Verse - at least not yet.  Not until IBM provides us with the mobile app for ICAA - IBM� Client Application Access (formerly known as IBM Notes� Browser Plug-in).
