Creating an Additional Site Location for IFC Export with Neutral Project Coordinates

Creating an Additional Site Location for IFC Export with Neutral Project Coordinates

When Revit exports to IFC, it typically uses the current Location (Survey Point) Shared Coordinates as Origin. You can observe this in the IFC file:

But what if you want to Export to IFC with Project coordinates (Revit origin), not Shared?

We want to do this because we have set up the import process from Tekla using this same Revit origin, here and particularly this:

1) Firstly, make a container RVT file with one Site Location, no shared coordinates. In other words, Project Base Point, Survey Point, and Revit Origin are all in one place.

2) Then, open the project you want to export, and link this container file Origin-to-Origin

3) Transfer Project Standards:

4) Choose the Link you made, and Project Info (only):

5) Choose New Only (this will just bring in the uniquely named project location from the link):

6) Open Location dialog in Revit, under Site you will notice a new "Site". Set it current with the Make Current button:

7) Now that the Project Origin (neutral coordinates) are set, you can export to IFC:

8) After Exporting, reset the coordinates back to what it was before with Make Current:

9) Optional: delete the IFC Export site definition if you dont need it anymore...

I previously posted about a similar method, but it was a bit destructive, whereas the above process can be implemented into a live project more easily:
What Revit Wants: When and how to neutralize Survey coordinates for IFC export from Revit

Create a Whatsapp Account Whatsapp Create An account Whatsapp messages Online Whatsapp

Do you want to Create a Whatsapp Account? Okay, theres no problem about Creating a Whatsapp account  provided you are ready to follow my lead in this piece of write-up. Whether you want to create an online whatsapp or you just want to create the normal whatsapp account on your mobile device; there wont be any problem for you or anyone else. Howbeit, you will need to have a mobile device and a working sim card before you can register and sign in Whatsapp account.
Now, there is something I will like you to know before we continue; which is "Theres also a way you can register for Whatsapp without having a SIM card. What this means is that you will be able to chat and make calls even without having a phone number. For now, the process is somehow very complicated, confusing and overwhelming most times. If you are interested, well talk about that later on our subsequent tutorial."

Back to the subject matter;

How to Create a Whatsapp Account | Whatsapp Create An account

whatsapp create an account
Whatsapp create an Account ? Whatsapp is available for Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian, and Windows Phone devices. If your device runs on one of these operating systems go to this page on your mobile phones web browser to install it. You can also easily download and install Whatsapp directly from your OSs store, such as Google Play, Apples iTunes App Store, Nokia Store, Windows Apps Store, and BlackBerry World.

Once youve downloaded and installed the app on your mobile phone, go to your phones home screen and tap on the Whatsapp icon to open it.

Now youll be prompted to enter your country code, so go ahead and type it in the Country Code field.

Enter your mobile number and select a verification method.

Now you will receive an SMS message with a 6-digit Whatsapp verification access code, or you can request to verify and validate your account via a phone call instead.

And then simply enter your verification code to start using Whatsapp.

Also note that you should know that although Whatsapp Web does allow to use your account online to send unlimited text messages, share videos and pictures, view your contacts details, set privacy options, update your status, make voice calls, use the broadcast list feature, and more, you wont be able to sign up for an account online, because in order to register you will definitely need a phone, and to access WhatsApp Web you will also need an active account on your phone.

However, as mentioned earlier, I have a solution that will allow you to use WhatsApp without a SIM card and a phone number, on mobile or on the web, but I will share that little, yet very useful trick with you later.

If you have an active WhatsApp account on your mobile phone, a reliable as well as stable internet connection on both your mobile device and your computer, and your favorite web browser updated to the latest version, then visit this page to learn more on how to get started using WhatsApp Web right now.

WhatsApp Web | Online WhatsApp | WhatsApp Online Login

To access whatsapp online platform, all you need is to click this link https://web.whatsapp.com/??/en

Quickly send and receive WhatsApp messages right from your computer.

WhatsApp Login Sign Up Online Web Account

To know how to get Online WhatsApp Login and Web WhatsApp Sign Up Account then this tutorial is for you. Creating a WhatsApp account online isnt possible for now. You cant sign up online web account for WhatsApp because there is no official service available to do so. But, you can login with an existing account and start using WhatsApp features online.

In order to run WhatsApp completely on computer or laptop, it needs to be ready with a specific system. It should have at least 4GB RAM, free storage left in C Drive (always keep 4-5GB free) and make sure that the graphics driver version is updated to latest version. The system should be capable of running HD content with ease.

Online WhatsApp Web Sign In :

You need to have WhatsApp installed and running on a smartphone first. Make sure that it is running latest version of the app i.e. the updated one.
Start Google Chrome or Firefox browser on your computer or laptop.
Open this website, the official URL for WhatsApp Web.

You will see a QR code there which needs to be scanned using the rear camera of your phone, but for that you need to first pick your phone.
And, open WhatsApp application. Now move into options and tap on WhatsApp Web. Now the camera will launch and you need to do the scanning thing.

This is how you can login into WhatsApp online and use it from the computer or laptop for free.

Download WhatsApp for PC completely

The process you need to opt this method is down here and you need to go through it as it is.

Note : Here is the complete guide to get WhatsApp for PC
First of all, you need to download an Android emulator. I am going to recommend using YouWave this time because it is a premium software.
Start installing this software by going through on screen process and it will not take any longer than a minute to get ready.
Start the YouWave and select your free trial offered for first 10 days officially. Launch the Browser application from the menu now.
Start opening website of Google play store. Use the search tool then to find WhatsApp app.

Click on the app and finally click on install option ahead of its play stores listing.
Once you press the install button, you have to login with a Google account. This is just like an Android system. Just like you have to login there so you have to login here.
After the login, wait for a while and soon WhatsApp will be installed and it will be ready to use. The process is over and I hope it was worth your time spent.

You can now launch the WhatsApp app and sign up for a new account. Make sure you add a phone number which is accessible to you i.e. your own phone number. After sign up process and verification one, WhatsApp will be ready to use right from your computer.

Creating a linux service for an executable JAR

Creating a linux service for an executable JAR

We need an executable JAR to run as a service on ubuntu linux.
For this we used Java Service Wrapper.

Here a simple example of the use of Java Service Wrapper.

I have build a simple java executable jar with code below.
package executable;

import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
import java.util.Date;

import org.slf4j.Logger;
import org.slf4j.LoggerFactory;

public class Main {
 private static final Logger LOGGER = LoggerFactory.getLogger(Main.class);
 private SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss");
 private void messageLoop(String msg){
     while(true) {
      Date nu = new Date();
      String strDate = sdf.format(nu);
         LOGGER.info(strDate + " : " + msg);
         try
            { Thread.sleep(10000); }
         catch (InterruptedException ex)
            { return; }
     }
 }
    public static void main(String[] args) {
  LOGGER.info("Start main" );
  Main mainKlasse = new Main();
  mainKlasse.messageLoop("Hier ben ik ;o)");
  LOGGER.info("Einde main" );
    }
}

Create an user on linux for the service.
useradd jarserviceuser
mkdir /home/jarserviceuser
chown jarserviceuser.jarserviceuser /home/jarserviceuser
vim /etc/passwd   (jarserviceuser:x:1004:1004::/home/jarserviceuser:/bin/bash)

passwd jarserviceuser  ( and an appropiate password )

Directories for the new executable-jar application are created, see statemenst below.
mkdir /opt/jarapplication
mkdir /opt/jarapplication/lib
mkdir /opt/jarapplication/bin
mkdir /opt/jarapplication/conf
mkdir /opt/jarapplication/logs
mkdir /opt/jarapplication/tmp
Copy the executable jar to the application directory.
mv executablejar.jar /opt/jarapplication/lib/executablejar.jar

For configuring an executable jar as a service, the Java Service Wrapper is used.
( http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/download.jsp )

Below the statemens used for configuring the service wrapper.
cd /opt/jarapplication
wget http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/download/3.5.26/wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26.tar.gz
gunzip wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26.tar.gz
tar -xvf wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26.tar
cp ./wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26/bin/testwrapper ./bin/
cp ./wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26/bin/wrapper ./bin/
cp ./wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26/lib/* ./lib/

Create a config file and edit this with the right information.
cp ./wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26/src/conf/wrapper.conf.in /opt/jarapplication/conf/wrapper.conf

vim /opt/jarapplication/conf/wrapper.conf

#  needed starting from 1
wrapper.java.classpath.1=../lib/wrapper.jar
wrapper.java.classpath.2=../lib/executablejar.jar

# Java Additional Parameters
#wrapper.java.additional.1=

wrapper.app.parameter.1=executable.Main

# Application parameters.  Add parameters as needed starting from 1
wrapper.logfile=/var/log/jarapplication/jarapplication.log

# Title to use when running as a console

wrapper.console.title=jarapplication

Create a startup script in etc/init.d
cp ./wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.5.26/src/bin/sh.script.in /etc/init.d/jarapplication
vim /etc/init.d/jarapplication

APP_NAME=jarapplication
APP_LONG_NAME="test executable jar"
WRAPPER_CMD="/opt/jarapplication/bin/wrapper"
WRAPPER_CONF="/opt/jarapplication/conf/wrapper.conf"
PIDDIR="/opt/jarapplication/bin"
RUN_AS_USER=jarserviceuser
chmod 0755 /etc/init.d/jarapplication

get the initlevels right with sysv-rc-conf

Make sure the ownerships, rights and folders are correct.
chmod 0644 /opt/jarapplication/lib/executablejar.jar
chown -R jarserviceuser.jarserviceuser /opt/jarapplication/
mkdir /var/log/jarapplication
chown jarserviceuser.jarserviceuser /var/log/jarapplication/
touch /var/log/jarapplication/jarapplication.log
chown jarserviceuser.jarserviceuser /var/log/jarapplication/jarapplication.log

The service is now available with the service command.
service jarapplication status
service jarapplication help
service jarapplication start
service jarapplication stop

Some extra information on creating a service with java service wrapper can be found here (Jenkins example)

For configuring the LOG4J logging, the LOG4J property file has to be configured in the wrapper.conf.
Following line has to be inserted.
wrapper.java.additional.1=-Dlog4j.configuration=file:/opt/jarapplication/conf/log4j.properties

The file /opt/jarapplication/conf/log4j.properties can be created with following lines. (This lets you control the LOG4J output)
log4j.rootLogger = INFO, STDOUT
#log4j.rootLogger = DEBUG, STDOUT
log4j.appender.STDOUT = org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
log4j.appender.STDOUT.layout = org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.STDOUT.layout.ConversionPattern = %5p [%t] (%F:%L) - %m%n

Creating an Evolution e mail from the command line and python

Creating an Evolution e mail from the command line and python

Evolution is intended as a GUI e-mail client, so the scripting options are limited. Also, it looks like you cannot autosend e-mail from a script, theres so script command equivalent to the send button.

But thats a good thing; I can autosend from nail when I want to. So a script will compose the e-mail, which will sit on my desktop until I review it and click to send it. Nice.

shell command source

This command creates a window with To:, From:, Subject:, and Body filled in. From: is already known by Evolution, the rest is parsed from the following command:

evolution mailto:person@example.com?subject=Test&body=Some%20crazy%20story%20stuff%0D%0Acolumn1%09%09column2%09%09column3%0D%0A%0D%0ASincerely,%0D%0A%0D%0AMe

Another (easier) way:
evolution mailto:person@example.com?cc="second_person@example.com"&subject="This Is The Subject"&body="This is the body of the message"&attach=Desktop/test_file.xml
  • evolution mailto:person@example.com - Launches Evolutions e-mail composer and To: line
  • ?cc="Person@example.com" - CC: Line
  • &subject="Subject" or ?subject="Subject" - Subject line
  • &body="Body" - Body of the e-mail is everything after this line
  • &attach=/path/file - Files to attach
  • %20 - Space
  • %0D%0A - CR/LF (new line)
  • %09 - Tab

python command

Python 2.x has its own smtp module for creating e-mail, its far more useful in most circumstances. But in this case, we want the composed evolution window.

import os
body_string = This is the body of the e-mail message
body_string = body_string.replace( ,%20)
os.popen(evolution mailto:person@example.com?subject=Test&body= + body_string)
  • import os - Use pythons os module
  • body_string = This is the body of the e-mail message - The body in normal text
  • body_string = body_string.replace( ,%20) - Encode the spaces (evolution will decode them). Tabs, newlines, and other reserved strings need to be encoded.
  • os.popen(evolution mailto:person@example.com?subject=Test&body= + body_string) - The os.popen(cmd) executes shell cmd. Note that cmd is just a python string, and you can use all the string tools on it, like adding body_string.
>>> import os
>>> to = person@example.com
>>> cc = "second_person@example.com"
>>> subject = "This is the subject"
>>> body = "This is the body"
>>> attachment = Desktop/rss_test.xml
>>> os.popen(evolution mailto:+to+?cc=+cc+&subject=+subject+&body=+body+&attachment=+attachment)

Creating a patch to fix an Ubuntu bug

Creating a patch to fix an Ubuntu bug

Today Im preparing a patch to fix Launchpad Bug #117984, which is also Gnome Bug #451734.

References: Ubuntu Wiki, Ubuntu Packaging Guide

It turns out that to do it properly, you need to make two patches. The first one is a .diff file for Debian and upstream. The second creates a .debdiff patch for Ubuntu.

There are circumstances, of course, where one of the patches is not neccessary, and some of these steps can be skipped.

    Note: Use steps 1-9 & 14-15 for just an upstream (.diff) patch. Use steps 1-4,5-7,11-13 & 15 for just an Ubuntu (.debdiff) patch.
  1. Open a terminal window
  2. Create a working directory with the command mkdir working
  3. Move to the working directory with the command cd working
  4. Download the latest source package using the command apt-get source packagename. This method automatically appends an .orig suffix, and unpacks the file, too. DONT download the source from packages.ubuntu.com; instead ADD the repos to your Software Sources control panel using the instructions at the Ubuntu Wiki
  5. Make a copy of the unpacked folder with cp -r package-folder package-folder-orig
  6. Go into the unpacked folder (not the orig) with cd package-folder.
  7. Edit the file using nano path/to/file/to/fix. Fix the file
  8. Return to the working directory with cd ..
  9. Use diff -Nurp package-folder-orig package-folder > upstream-bug#.diff to create the upstream patch.
  10. Go back into the unpacked folder (not the orig) with cd package-folder.
  11. Use the command dch -i to update the changelog. Show the change and list the bug# fixed.
  12. Use debuild -S -us -uc to create the debdiff patch.
  13. Attach the .debdiff patch to the bug in Launchpad.
  14. Attach the upstream .diff patch to the Launchpad bug AND the upstream bug.
  15. Delete the working directory, and all contents.
Update February 5, 2009: Accepted and fixed!

Creating a Chroot from an Ubuntu Live CD USB

Creating a Chroot from an Ubuntu Live CD USB

Chroot is an operation that changes the apparent root directory for the current running process and its children. It has got many uses but most importantly, it can be used to repair a broken, non-bootable install from a Live environment. May the problem be with the boot-loader, non-configured packages etc, Chroot would at least give you an environment from where you can try to repair the broken install.

There are several other advanced uses of Chroot like testing unstable applications, creating an environment with dependency control etc. We are just discussing the simple ones here.

Creating a Chroot

If you've got a non-bootable PC and want to attempt to repair it, boot an Ubuntu Live CD/USB on that PC. Go to a Terminal and find out your '/' partition by running this command:

sudo fdisk -l

You need to figure the partition notation for your '/' drive which looks like 'sda1', 'sda2' etc. You can also start GParted from System > Administration menu or by searching the Dash in Unity, and try to find your partition there.

For creating the Chroot, you need to run these commands one-by-one:

sudo mkdir /mnt/temp
sudo mount /dev/sdXY /mnt/temp
for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys; do sudo mount -B $i /mnt/temp$i; done
sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/temp/etc/resolv.conf
sudo chroot /mnt/temp

Where 'sdXY' is your '/' partition.

The 4th command is meant to connect your Chroot environment to the internet but it would obviously only be successful if you've got internet access in the Live environment.
