Others want to log in to XP under your name?
Need to have an account under the radar?

Whatever the need, note it can be done!

The problem is that user accounts always show up on the welcome screen on XP. Our goal is to hide them from there using a simple Windows registry tweak. This tweak requires an existing account, so use one thats already there or create a new one. I would recommend the later!

Now go into the Registry (click on "start" > "Run" and type "Regedit" (without quotes) and hit enter).

Now go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWinlogonSpecialAccountsUserList

Now right-click on the pane on the right and create a new DWORD. Make the name from "New Value #1" to the same as the AccountName you wish to hide. Example: if I wanted to hide an Account called StealthyMoFo, the DWORD Name would be StealthyMoFo.

Now double-click on the name and set the data value:

0 to hide it
1 to make it visible

Now exit the registry and reboot the machine for this to take effect.

To logon using this new account, when you see the welcome screen, hold down "ctrl+alt" and hit delete twice. this should take you to a normal usernamepassword prompt like Windows 2000. Enter the name and password of the hidden account to log on.

Two Side Notes:

• This can be used to also force the Administrator account to show up on the welcome screen as it does in safe mode.

• Your hidden account will still have a folder under Documents and Settings. So if someone sees it, they might suspect something. Try to use something that sounds like it might belong there like "RemoteService" or "DotNet" or "Admin". Most people wouldnt rise an eyebrow as those would seem like normal application/User accounts.

for example i want to create a user having name indishell and want to assign /ftp directory to him if user autheticate successfully

uid and gid is 33

ftpasswd --uid 33 --gid 33 --name indishell --shell /bin/false --home /ftp --passwd

press enter and supply new password for the user account

these files contains FTP server usernames/groups and its password

and now are done :)
you can login to your ftp account using command
ftp  server_IP



Note:- if you are on ubuntu server, then value of uid and gid should be 33(web server id) else you may face issue in writing files ;)

CrossOver Preview runs Windows apps on Android and Chromebooks even Photoshop

Last week, CodeWeavers announced that after three years of development, a preview version of CrossOver for Android would be released. Why was I so excited? Because CrossOver allows you to run Windows programs on Mac and Linux, and they brought their expertise over to Android. After trying out the Preview version out for a week (which you can sign up for here), Im extremely impressed by its capabilities, despite some major limitations.

Disclaimer: Since I do not own an Intel-based Android tablet, and my Chromebook does not yet have the Google Play Store, I tested CrossOver on the latest version of Remix OS on my Dell Windows laptop. It is possible that some of the bugs I experienced are issues with Remix, but CrossOvers compatibility with Windows programs is identical no matter how you run it. CrossOver for Android is in early beta, so everything in this review is subject to change with subsequent updates.

First impressions

CrossOvers entire user interface consists of the virtual desktop, where all the Windows programs live, and an Install Application button. The installer functionality is where CrossOver shines on the desktop. With the WINE open-source project that CrossOver is based on, getting a program to run (even at all) can mean hunting down forum posts to see what LinuxFan78 typed in the command line.
CrossOver tries to alleviate this pain with their installers, which downloads a given program and performs all the necessary tweaks for the program to run automatically. For example, when I installed Steam through CrossOver, it downloaded multiple fonts that Steam requires before proceeding with the actual Steam installation.

CrossOver for Android only has a few known-good applications, but if you so desire, you can try installing any of CrossOvers available applications. The selection is fairly expansive, but if you want to install something not listed, youll have to download a web browser like Firefox inside CrossOver and download it manually.

The virtual desktop is fairly basic, showing some app shortcuts at the top and a Start menu with access to your programs at the bottom. Theres also a very basic file manager, a setting to add/remove programs, and the Wine configuration tool.

Games

Perhaps the most exciting prospect of running Windows programs on Android (or a Chromebook) is playing Windows vast library of games. Thats a huge reason Wine even exists, despite the rise of Steam OS and Linux gaming, most new titles are still locked to Windows. Linux and Mac users have used Wine, CrossOver, and other similar software for years to play Windows-exclusive titles.

Steam is easy to get up and running, just choose it from the Install Application dialog and click Next/Accept on all the installer popups. But trying to play games is where I ran into problems. Wine, and thus CrossOver, only supports DirectX 9 - meaning most new Windows games will just plain not work. CodeWeavers is working hard on adding DirectX 10 and 11 support, but its a massive undertaking. Many games also offer an OpenGL mode, except that doesnt work here either. Android only supports OpenGL ES, not the full OpenGL spec that Windows programs expect.
Another frustrating problem is games cannot lock the mouse inside the program. To my understanding, Android doesnt allow applications to lock the mouse at all, so FPS titles wont be playable without a controller. Games running in full-screen seem to be buggy as well, but most games have windowed modes anyways. Finally, theres no way to change the resolution of the virtual desktop, so older games expecting a smaller screen might have problems.

I didnt try many of my Steam games, but I did successfully run three titles - Half Life 1, Team Fortress: Classic, and Game Dev Tycoon. Half Life 1 (pictured above) only worked when I disabled full-screen mode and switched to software rendering instead of OpenGL. The mouse didnt lock so it was uncontrollable, but moving around was buttery smooth. Team Fortress was the same story, and Game Dev Tycoon surprisingly worked without messing with the settings.

If your game can run either on software rendering or DirectX 9, and doesnt need to lock the mouse, theres a good chance it might run in CrossOver. Especially if you install it through CrossOvers install mechanism. As stated earlier, CodeWeavers has been working on DirectX 10 and 11 support on the desktop versions of CrossOver, so it wouldnt surprise me if those changes trickle down to the Android version at some point.

Other software

Youll need to use a web browser to install software not available in CrossOver itself. I used CrossOvers installer to download Firefox, seen below. I tried to run a recent release, version 45 to be exact, but it froze whenever I saved a file so I switched back to Firefox 7 (which is still usable for most sites).

One of the best use cases for CrossOver is to run full Microsoft Office, but Office 2013 and newer dont work at all thanks to their dependence on DirectX 10. CodeWeavers officially supports Office 2010 and earlier, but I didnt have a copy of that version, so I tried out LibreOffice. If youve never used it, LibreOffice is an open-source office suite with MS Office compatibility, and it works fairly well in CrossOver.

Granted, it worked until I tried to save a file, then it froze. So close!

Holy Photoshop, Batman

I was incredibly surprised to see my copy of Photoshop CS3, without changing any settings, worked in CrossOver. Well, mostly.

I tried basic image manipulation including transforms, gradients, cropping, filters, etc, all with success. However, it does crash when trying to use fonts, and a few other times randomly, but its extremely impressive that CrossOver can run it at all. Photoshop CS6 requires some extra packages in Wine, known as winetricks, to run perfectly - but as far as I can tell, there is no way to install winetricks in CrossOver yet.

Android/Chromebook integration

CrossOvers integration with the host operating system, be it Android or Chrome OS, is rather limited but still more than I was expecting. The root Android file system shows up as a drive in CrossOver, allowing you to transfer data back and forth without too much trouble. For example, I could easily open pictures in Photoshop from the Android downloads folder.

If you read my last blog post, you would know that I am really into deploying applications and systems with deb and rpm packages whenever possible. One of the things you will eventualy want to do, to make deb and rpm package deployment easier, is to create a remote apt or yum repo to host your packages. One of the cooler tricks I have come up with in recent times is creating apt/yum repos in obscure locations.

This aritical will go over how to host an apt repo inside of a git repo on github. This little trick has the following benifits:

1. free hosting for you apt repo
2. publicly availability
3. provide a single location for source code and packages.

Yes, I am aware there are free services to host deb and rpm packages, but sometimes, for various reasons, these serices dont fit the bill. While turning github into a remote apt repo is a strange technique, I do find it to be very useful. Keep in mind, you can use this technique on various other free services which you wouldnt expect to funciton as a remote apt repository. Basicly, if you can upload a directory structure and files, you can turn it into an apt or yum repo.

Install Dependancies for Creating our Repo

• First, on our local system, we need to install some dependancies for creating our apt repo which we will upload to github.

• For this step, you will need an Debian or Ubuntu system.

  sudo apt-get install reprepro

Create the Repo Directory Stucture

• Feel free to change "myrepo" to whatever you like. If you do, just remember to also do so in consecutive steps.

  mkdir -p myrepo/{conf,incoming}

Setup The Core Apt Repo Config File

• In this step we will create the main config file for our apt repo. There are many cusomization options in this step.

• Suite is typicaly set to either stable or unstable

• Codename can be anything you wish but is typicaly set to the short name release version of the Debian or Ubuntu distribution such as wheezy, sid, jessie, lucid, precise, trusty, utopic, vivid

• Architecture is typicaly set as one of the following i386, amd64 or armel

• If you want to include multiple architectures in your repo, just include them on the architeres line but seperate each value with a space

• More advanced documentation on conf/distributions files can be found here

  cd myrepo

Add a deb package to your apt repo

• Before we finish up and upload our apt repo to github, we have to add some deb packages to it.

• Make sure the deb packages you use in the following step are of the same architecture you used in the previous step.

• If you get errors with the above command, try running the following instead:

  reprepro -S utils includedeb wheezy ../my_deb_package.deb

Turn your Apt repo into a git repo and upload it

• This step requires that you have create a new git repo on github. If you have not, you can read how to do so here
• Also make sure that you have setup your github ssh keys so you can properly push your repo to github.

• finally, this example uses git@github.com:hackgnar/myrepo.git but you will replace that with your initialized github repo.

  cd ~/src/myrepo
  git init
  git add -A
  git commit -a -m "initial commit"
  git remote add origin git@github.com:hackgnar/myrepo.git
  git push -u origin master

(Optional) Connect a system to your new apt repo and install something:

• This step shows you how to connect a new system to your newly created apt repo and install a package from it. Note that we have to install and use `apt-transport-https as a dependancy because apt-get does not support https by default.
• make sure to replace hackgnar with the name you use for your github account
• make sure to replace myrepo with the name you used for your github repo

• make sure to replace my-package-name with the name of the deb package you installed into your repo

  sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https

  deb https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hackgnar/myrepo/master main

Summary

If you have read this far, hopefully you found this weird tutorial to be useful. While this apt hosting technique may not work for everyone, I have found it to be very handy. Also, keep in mind that there are limitations to this technique. One such example is github file size limitations which will restrict the size of the deb packages you invlude in your repo. Antonio just put up a a great tutorial for creating a free website using Radiant CMS and DB2 on Amazon.

A great thing about this configuration is that it uses an Amazon micro instance, and Amazon lets new customers try out micro instances for free for a year. I talk a lot about free cloud offers, but usually I mean that our software is free while you are still paying someone for the hardware. In this case, the hardware is free too.

Radiant is a content management system (CMS). Other popular CMS software includes Drupal and Joomla, with blogging tools like Wordpress increasingly gaining CMS-like features.

In my experience, the hardest part of running a website is maintenance. Keeping the content up to date while posting new things can be a challenge. A CMS like Radiant makes this a lot easier by separating your content from the sites structure and appearance, so one doesnt distract you from the other. From the point of view of a site owner, a CMS-drived website really is far superior to the traditional hand-rolled websites of yesteryear.

Whats this got to do with the glory of the free DB2 Express-C database? Well, thats where your content gets stored.

So, I dare you -- launch a site on Radiant CMS and DB2 today.

Footnotes on the CorelDraw Graphics Suite

Considering that the CorelDraw X8 Graphics Suite isnt available for macOS, working with the Surface Pen and CorelDraw/Corel Photo-Paint shouldve been a match made in heaven for Corel fans. Unfortunately, it isnt.  That isnt to say the CorelDraw X8 Graphics Suite is a bad fit for the Surface Pro 4. In fact, the Mini DisplayPort, powerful processor, and portability of the SP4 makes it perfect for creative professionals without a permanent office. Moreover, the screen size is more than enough for veteran Corel users who work with a mouse or Wacom digitizer. In addition, some digital artists are exceptionally adept at adapting to digital pens and can probably get a lot of mileage from the combination of CorelDraw and the Surface Pro 4.

For those who use Corel products at home, a PC or a 2-in-1 hybrid would be a good alternative. The larger Yoga or Inspiron 2-in-1s (13" or larger) would work well for users who dont use the keyboard often (or prefer a full-size keyboard), and rely on a mouse or Wacom when working on CorelDraw. Moreover, these machines generally have better graphics cards than the Surface Pro 4, with multiple ports for numerous displays and additional accessories.

During installation, CorelDraw will inform you if your Windows device doesnt meet minimum requirements. I attempted to install X8 on my 8" HP Stream 8 tablet running Windows 10 Home. The setup process wont prevent you from completing installation, but I dont recommend CorelDraw or Corel Photo-Paint on the HP Stream 8 due to its size, performance, and display resolution.

Although you can bypass the installation warning and install Corel X8 on a smaller Windows device, the user experience is quite poor and not recommended.

One of the reasons Ive always turned to the CorelDraw Graphics Suite over the last 16 years is because of its ease of use, file format support, and flexibility for a variety of projects. However, Im also aware that times have changed and some of the tasks that the Corel Graphics Suite can do, can be done easily and faster using todays iOS, Android, and Microsoft apps (even free ones). Even Microsoft saw the writing on the wall and started making Office available ostensibly for free on mobile devices. Corel X8 is fine for older users like myself, but I concede that its probably less useful to todays users who are spoiled with apps and who prefer touch screens when working. On the other hand, the Home and Student version is pretty affordable, so it doesnt hurt to have such a powerful set of applications on your Surface Pro 4 or Windows laptop.

The incremental updates Corel has added to CorelDraw and Corel Photo-Paint seem painfully dated. Whereas Adobe has arguably moved with the times by migrating their software to the cloud and producing mobile apps, Corel isnt present at all on Google Play, Microsoft or Apple Store. Corel seems to be satisfied with the CorelDraw Graphics Suite as-is, and seems to be focusing instead on Corel Painter, arguably their most popular product at the moment thanks to the rise of geek culture, manga, and Marvel/DC. To be fair, I occasionally see technical documents and company ads that use CorelDraw, but considering how reliable and powerful Corels applications are, the word "Corel" should be found more often in document metadata.

It would be interesting to see if Corel would take steps to improve the Corel Graphics Suite for Surface Studio - the developers should at least ensure the UI would work well with Microsofts massive design workstation. Corel on machines like the Surface Pro 4 has a lot of potential and X8 fails to take advantage of this opportunity. Unfortunately, it seems that Corels developers have yet to acknowledge mobile devices, the new ways people work, and the different Windows machines currently available on the market.

Today we will add a menu entry (Program shortcut) on antiX main menu. It is icewm, so many thing are different then KDE or GNome. This kind of minimal environment require some coding experience to do customise. But antiX has a adding menu enty way. It dont need and console based command typing skill. It is GUI (Graphical user interface). So, you can add a program shortcut using some graphical dialogue box.

I took my favorite simple text editor Leafpad as a example. I named this new shortcut m-leafpad (My leafpad).

Directly go to antiX menu >Tools > System >Add .desktop Files

This site covers just about every instance of WordPerfect, Wordperfect for DOS in particular, on MS-DOS, Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. So you could get lost. That covers it for WordPerfect for Mac apps. As for Word for Mac, he includes an installation of Word for Mac 5.1a. Look in the Applications folder on the WPMac HD volume.�

You�ll also find MacLink Plus 11, which can convert a wide range of documents and images that you may have on your system and didn�t know what to do with. Archaic WordStar files? MacLink Plus can convert it into Word 97-2004 format. Old images files in ZSoft .pcx format? Finally, can you install Appleworks 6 from your old iMac G3 CDs? Yes, you can.�

Just copy the installer app, about 27 mega bytes in size, over to your /Users/<Username>/Documents folder. From there, copy the installer over to the WPMac HD virtual hard drive icon in the upper right-hand corner of the window from the Unix virtual hard drive icon.

The Unix icon is really just a link to the folder on your Mac chosen by WPMacApp to serve as the conduit between your emulated old Mac and your physical new Mac.�

Appleworks 6 installed. WPMacAPP quit upon finishing installation. I restated. After rebuilding the desktop, all is fine. Using the already installed MacLink Plus 11, I can import and export in a wide variety of formats.�

Lately I tried to create a MySQL db on Ubuntu (version 11 which has MySQL 5.1 preinstalled). I was logged in under my normal username but I got a surprise when running the mysql_install_db command.

There were not log files though and checking directories and permissions didnt reveal any problems.
So I started to search and found that Ubuntu uses a security mechanism called apparmor which can be used to control certain aspects of an application.
In regards to MySQL that means that there exists a MySQL profile which defines which directories can be accessed (and how) by the MySQL programs. The profile for the daemon mysqld is defined in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld and looks like this:

So in order to enable MySQL to access a subdirectory of my $HOME I had to edit the file as root (sudo vi ...) and add this line to the list (I put it right under the /sys/devices line)

 /home/andreas/mysql/** rw, 

The apparmor man page explains the syntax and attributes in detail. For my purposes it suffices to know that ** stands for the directory and all subdirectories underneath and rw is of course read/write.

Then this new profile needs to be activated replacing the old one via

 $ sudo apparmor_parser -rv /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld Replacement succeeded for "/usr/sbin/mysqld". 

Finally running the MySQL program again did create the databases.
