Creating a folder with limited size

Creating a folder with limited size

To create a folder with fixed size, one of the solutions is to create a limited size filesystem and mount it.

Create a file that will be a container of the filesystem. Just take ANY file on your system that has a suitable size, or create one by
$ dd if=/dev/null of=~/myfs bs=SIZE_OF_BLOCK_IN_BYTES count=SIZE

Format the file with the FS you want
$ mkfs.ext4 ~/myfs
It will say that it creates an FS on a non-block device.

Mount the FS
mount -o loop,rw,usrquota,grpquota ~/myfs  /path/of/mount/point

Cracking Cleanersoft Free Hide Folder Security

Cracking Cleanersoft Free Hide Folder Security

Introduction

Cleanersoft Free Hide Folder is a "security" tool used to hide your folders. The program uses a simple interface that is protected by a password that lets you hides and unhides selected folders. Our target objectives here will be to find where it is hiding the information about what folders are hidden and recover the password.

Finding where the folder information is stored

Well, We will use the easiest approach, see what files and registry keys the program (fhide.exe) writes to using Process Monitor while hiding a folder (in this case C: est). This should show us where it is writing to and it seems this approach worked out well.

Well, What have we here. We see a file operation on my C: est folder, it renamed the folder "CHKDSK.100" and that is followed by a registry key creation at "HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionNamespacegetPrefix0".

First lets confirm the folder was renamed. since it is hidden I will run the command line command "DIR /A:SH CHKDSK.*" (the /A:SH will show hidden and system files and folders). Wow... Its right there, great hiding trick.... is it accessible? Run a "cd CHKDSK.100". Looks like we can.

Okay, Lets see whats hidden here with a "Dir" command and we see private.txt. Okay, well it should be encrypted right? guess again... "Type private.txt".

Well We are off a bad start for security. But how do we know where these are hidden if we didnt hide them? How can we find them? Well lets check out that registry key. Okay. Lets take a look at the keys here.
  • getPrefix0 = E
  • Declaration0 = X:*XSPWHP.377
  • Javax0 = X:*gvhg
Hmmm.... Declaration0 and Javax0 both start with X:*, interesting. well. Lets make another hidden folder called C: est123 which becomes CHKDSK.101. Well, now we have 3 new keys. they are the same names as above but instead we have a one at the end instead of zero.
  • getPrefix1 = E
  • Declaration1 = X:*XSPWHP.373
  • Javax1 = X:*gvhg321
Okay, Starting to see a pattern. It looks like Declaration is for the new hidden file name. Javax is for what its unhidden name. getPrefix stayed the same. It appears to be a simple substitution cipher. The easy way to figure it out? Well, Let make a folder called C:abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890 and put it side by side with encrypted value and we have a key chart ;-).
  • C:abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890
  • X:*zyxwvutsrqponmlkjihgfedcba3215894067
Looks like the alphabet is just backwards. "/" becomes "*". The only thing different is the numbers but not that big of a deal, since we now see the key above anyways. So now we can decrypt the Declaration and Javax keys. they point to the folders, both hidden and unhidden names, just as we thought.

The last is the getPrefix key. I had one folder unhidden when I was working and the key value changed to "W". So it seems that "E" means it is hidden, "W" means not hidden. So Id Say we have this down now.

Finding The Password

Last thing to attack is the password for the program (in this case it is "Password"). Lets check more into the registry. There is one more key here:
  • BAR - Kzhhdliw
Surprise. my password and this key are both the same length. the 3rd and 4th characters repeat. Lets just try to decrypt it with our key chart above and... yep, thats our password... So with this information I was able to code a little tool that can exploit this to prove concept for academic reasons (And to only be used for that). I call the tool "Free Unhide Folder" (original huh?).

CREATE CON FOLDER EASILY

CREATE CON FOLDER EASILY

WE CANNOT CREATE THESE FOLDERS
CON, PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, LPT9 and more

The reason is that con, aux, clocks, lpt1..lpt9, etc are underlying devices from the time dos was written. so if u r allowed to create such folders, there will be an ambiguity in where to write data when the data is supposed to go to the specified devices. In other words, if i want to print something, internally what windows does is it will write the data to the folder prn (virtually u can call it a folder, i mean clocks, con, etc are virtual folders in device level). So if we are able to create con folder, windows will get confused where to write the data, to virtual con folder or real one.

STEPS TO CREATE CON FOLDER

We can create the CON folder easily
1. Create a folder and name it as CON
2.Press and hold Alt and type 0160 and press enter it will be done. The CON folder will be created. And you have done.........

Undeletable Folder

But to prove otherwise, the nut.
Here are the steps to do so:
1. Open the command prompt (Windows key + R and type cmd and hit enter).

2. Type  cd  (it brings command out to C drive).

3. Now is the tricky part, you have to type this:
md.<YourDrivehere>:con  (Replace YourDriveHere with your desired drive and you can add further pat

Now, ask friends to remove it, and be surprised that the folder can not be deleted. In fact, this is due to the error that Windows can not create a folder named, so you can`t remove a folder that you don`t you create.

However, if you ever want to delete this folder, Do remember that it won`t get deleted by normal deletion but rather by this command:

rd. <YourDrivehere> :con (Replace YourDriveHere with your desired drive and you can add further path too.)

Create file folder on new HD Partition easily Permission problem solved

Create file folder on new HD Partition easily Permission problem solved

After fresh Linux install we may find that we have no permission to create file or folder to a new or another hard-disk partition. This is a safety feature of Linux OS. We have to get permission to write in that specific hard disk partition. I think you can ask this in some various way.
no permission to create file or folder on another harddisk partition drive
No permission to create file or folder on another hard-disk partition drive. Look at the mouse pointer.
  1. How to create file of folder on a new hard disk partition?
  2. How to get permission to create file and folder to another hard-disk partition?
  3. Writing is disabled on HD partition. How to enable it.
  4. How to enable writing permission on a specific folder or in a hd partition drive? etc.
I have write two post about it. One is Can not create file folder on newly installed Ubuntu [Solved] and another is ext4 partition require password to view files. Both are quite geeky solution. But I discovered most easy way to do this job. That is enabling permission to write or create on another hd drive.

Here is the solution tips step by step.. follow the tutorial below...

  • a. Open terminal from Menu.
  • b. Type "sudo nautilus"
  • c. Supply password (It will not shown. Go typing). You are going to get root privileged to change anything on that correspondence partition. A new Nautilus window manager will open.
  • d. Now open that specific Hard disk partition or another drive using opened nautilus window manager.
  • Right click menu on root nautilus. Click Properties to change options
  • Right click menu on root nautilus. Click Properties to change options
  • e. Right click there. A task menu will open.
  • f. Point to Properties at the bottom of the menu and Click (Left click).
  • g. Drive properties will open. Heed to Permission TAB.
  • Properties window. Heed to Permission TAB
  • Properties window. Heed to Permission TAB
  • h. Here you can enable permission for System Owner or for Group or Others.
  • i. If you just want to get writing permission for your own, then click on the drop down menu just behind the "Owner" text.
  • Hard disk Owner long menu
  • Hard disk Owner long menu
  • j. A long menu will open.
  • k. Scroll up or down and find your name their. Select your name.
  • l. Change Folder access and File access to your name instead of ROOT. Give right to Create and Delete files permission for both.
  • m. If there are many file and folder on that hard-disk drive then click once on "Apply Permissions to Enclosed Files". All file and folder access will not be locked to you.
Apply permission to enclosed files
Apply Permission to Enclosed Files to get permission to all files and folders which are found into that hard disk or any folder.
Everything has done. Just close that Properties window and return to your Hard Disk drive to check.
You will discover that now you are able to create file or folder on that hard-disk drive.
create file folder on another hard disk drive partition
create file folder on another hard disk drive partition Now it will be easy for you creating or copying any file or folder on that hard-drive partition. Nothing will be locked for you. All locked folder and files will open instantly without any key. How funny???!!%%!
